The story of how RideHowl came to be.

The Problem

After talking with friends and family who drive for rideshare platforms, one thing became crystal clear: they felt like employees giving away too much of their hard-earned money.

Commission rates of 40-50%—sometimes even higher—left them wondering if the hustle was worth it. They didn't feel like business owners. They felt like they were working FOR the platform, not WITH it.

What they wanted was simple: a platform that helped them manage THEIR business, build THEIR customer base, and keep more of what THEY earn.

A Letter to Drivers

I built RideHowl because the current rideshare business model is broken.

The hardest working people I know drive rideshare. Family, close friends, and people I've met along the way that are doing this either full or part time to support themselves and their families. I've heard stories and seen first-hand the level of work ethic they have to deal with the stress of driving everywhere, maintaining impeccable customer-oriented attitudes, and effectively run a business out of their car. I've spoken with Drivers who were veterans, single parents raising a family by themselves, and even former business owners and employees who were looking for a new passion. Across all these unique individuals I've had the immense pleasure of speaking with, I've seen the same pain points come up over and over again.

The traditional platforms squeeze their earnings with more and more fees, a lack of transparency and control for the Drivers, and even punishing them for enjoying the freedoms of turning down unprofitable rides or taking personal time. The frustration they all felt planted a seed. The idea that sprouted afterwards was what started this business: What if Drivers could truly run their own business, free of the limitations imposed by the traditional platforms? What if they could have their own customers, set their own prices and schedules, and their hard-earned money?

That's where RideHowl comes in. Designed from the ground up with input from real drivers, and constantly soliciting feedback from current users to grow and adapt into the best Rideshare platform out there. Intentionally crafted with features that are critical for the drivers like:

  • Adaptable pricing and the ability to counter-offer rides; because an 8 mile trip in rural west Texas is very different than an 8 mile trip in downtown Dallas.
  • Customizable availability that the Rider's see ahead of time so you don't have to text/call back and forth just to book a ride
  • Earnings dashboard with transparency to see EXACTLY what you've earned, and when it's going to hit your bank account.
  • And a lot more features, all built and being built to make our user's lives easier.

The name RideHowl started as a play on "hailing a ride," but it comes from something more personal. Years ago, my friend group had a nickname: The Wolf Pack. I don't remember exactly how it started, but I remember how it felt—having people I could always count on.

When I talk to drivers today, I see the opposite. The "Lone Wolf" mentality. They feel isolated, squeezed, expendable. The apps treat them like interchangeable parts in a machine. RideHowl exists to change that. To give those Lone Wolves a pack. A platform that has their back. A way to build something of their own.
